For the Dogs

daisy-hosp-stay-225x300“Man’s best friend.” The history of dogs is focused around a partnership. That partnership is between dogs and humans and was established to help us with tasks such as herding, hunting and guarding as well as companionship. It is not clear as to when this relationship began but burial sites have been found dating as far back as 30,000 years ago. There are aspects of our partnership that have remained the same over all of these years and other aspects that have transformed. We still rely on our dogs for help with herding, hunting and guarding, but now they are also used as guide dogs for the blind and hearing impaired, and service and therapy dogs as well as seizure detection dogs. Dogs have been used both in police and in the military.

Our canine companions are such an integral part of our society and they have brought us immense joy.

Our ability to diagnose and treat our canine friends has grown leaps and bounds over the past decade. We have made changes in how we feed them and our advance in their medical care is astounding.

It is no wonder why we love dogs so much – they greet us daily with a tail wag or a lick to the face, and they are truly happy to see us when we walk through the door. They are nonjudgmental and they are the best at keeping secrets!
