Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy (VSMT), sometimes referred to as “animal chiropractic” is a beneficial tool for helping restore movement and function, reducing pain, and contributing to increased wellness when it comes to behaviour, movement, performance, and quality of life.
We are pleased to be able to offer this service to our clients with dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs.
What is the benefit of Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy (VSMT)?
Your pet’s nervous system controls every function in their body. With VSMT, our vets use small, gentle “adjustments” in order to restore movement and function, resulting in enhanced performance and quality of life. If you’ve noticed deterioration in your pet’s behaviour, movement, or pain threshold, spinal manipulation may be an option.
How do I know if spinal manipulation is right for my pet?
Pets with certain neurological and orthopedic conditions can be excellent candidates for spinal manipulation, as well as those with incontinence, mobility issues, and pets with conditions that don’t respond to traditional treatments. Performance animals can also benefit greatly from this type of drug-free therapy. See below for cases in which your pet might be a good candidate for spinal manipulation or contact us today to see if this is an option for your pet.
-
Dogs in sports – as part of their care program
-
Dogs that have suffered and injury
-
Post-surgical rehabilitation for cats and dogs
-
Aging pets with arthritis
-
Manipulation on the jaw after dental procedures (especially in rabbits and guinea pigs)
Is this something I can do at home?
One of the benefits to this type of treatment is the ability for you to get involved in your pet’s care. We’re able to guide you through some of the hands-on techniques we employ to help restore your pet to greater function. It’s also a great opportunity to bond with your pet.
What’s involved in being able to provide this type of service?
Our vets go through months of intensive training in order to become certified to offer VSMT, with more than 220 hours of supervised instruction through the Veterinary Chiropractic Learning Centre. Currently, Dr. Nickey Brown is certified to offer spinal manipulation.
