Jackie has a diverse background with experience in the worlds of both arts and science. After completing her Honours Bachelor of Music degree from WLU and initiating a Masters of Music Composition at UWO, she made the decision to follow her other passion, her love of animal care. She began her pursuit of a career in veterinary medicine by training with International Bird Rescue in northern California, specializing in aquatic bird rehabilitation and oil spill response and preparedness. She then treated over 1000 injured and orphaned wildlife a year as an employee of the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Rehabilitation, gaining hands on skills caring for moose, to raptors, to bats! Next, she returned to school to study science for two years the University of Calgary. During this time, she was delighted to assist the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine with Production Animal Health studies, particularly focusing on beef and dairy cattle. She conducted research behind the scenes at the Calgary Stampede and was employed in an immunology and experimental medicine laboratory.

Jackie loves to run group fitness classes, having been an avid Zumba instructor since 2013. She also likes to sing in the choir with her mother and sisters. Jackie lives with her supportive husband, three rescue budgies (Bluey, Creek and Stella) and rescue rabbit Joey. She strives to treat every patient with the love and compassion that her fluffy family receives at home!
