Just like with people, those few extra pounds pose several health risks. Cats with a body condition score of 6 through 9 are at risk of several health issues and here are just a few:
-Diabetes
– Liver disease
– Lameness and arthritis
– Increased surgical anesthetic risk
– Decreased quality of life
If your feline friend is overweight or obese, don’t worry – it can be reversed and/or managed through a combination of proper nutrition, increased activity and if necessary, medication (for underlying conditions).
